Periodontal (Gum) Care in Glenview, IL
If your gums have become infected with gingivitis, a treatment option for that is scaling and root planing. Our dentist will clean away any plaque and tartar and will then smooth out the tooth roots to effectively improve the health of your gums. Scaling and root planing is a very common and effective way to treat gum disease before it becomes a severe problem.
This treatment has two main steps, which are:
- Scaling: Plaque and tartar are removed from the surface of the tooth
- Root planning: The roots of the tooth are cleaned, which smooths the root in order to remove bacterial toxins
This procedure is done in order to remove tartar, bacteria and plaque and to stop the gum disease from becoming more severe. Many patients do not require anesthesia for this procedure, but we are happy to provide it to you if you feel that it would make you more comfortable and at ease during your treatment.
